Features: "Selected Readings in Modern Vietnamese Fiction" is an important required course for advanced Vietnamese language majors in foreign language institutions across China. The teaching objectives are to enhance students' ability to read and comprehend original texts, expand their vocabulary, and increase their understanding and awareness of Vietnamese social customs and ethnic traditions through reading representative modern Vietnamese novels. Although this course has been offered for many years, it has never had an officially published textbook. "Selected Readings in Modern Vietnamese Fiction" selects 37 representative Vietnamese short and long stories, reportage, and other works from the 1930s to the end of the 20th century, divided into three historical periods: (1) 1930–1945, 17 works (Volume 1); (2) 1945–1975, 30 works (Volume 2); (3) 1975–the end of the 20th century, 20 works (Volume 3). Each period includes an "Overview of Vietnamese Literature" that briefly introduces the historical background and literary conditions of the time. Each author is briefly introduced, including their life, representative works, and artistic style and characteristics. Each work is accompanied by an "Introduction" and "Annotations."
