Kant's Complete Works. Volume 3: Critique of Pure Reason (Second Edition)

Author: Li Qiuling, Editor-in-Chief
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-11-01
Features: This volume contains the second edition of Critique of Pure Reason. Critique of Pure Reason was first published in 1781 and caused Kant great distress due to being misunderstood as "Berkeleyanism." Six years later, Kant revised the work, particularly by adding a section titled "Refutation of Idealism" and significantly compressing the part on the derivative functions of the imagination of reproduction. The editors of the Kant Gesamtausgabe (Academy Edition) compiled the second edition as Volume 3 separately, while the more revised parts of the first edition were combined with other works into Volume 4. This translation strictly follows the Academy Edition. Critique of Pure Reason is one of Kant's most important academic works and also one of the most important works in the history of Western philosophy, hence it has long attracted attention from the Chinese translation community. Currently, there are multiple Chinese translations and various abridged versions available. The translator referred to these translations during the process and pays respect to the pioneering work of these predecessors.
