Wen Yiduo (1899-1946), also known as Yiduo by name, Yousan by courtesy name, and Youshan by another courtesy name, was ranked Jiahua in his family. Later, he changed his name to Duo and then to Yiduo. He dedicated himself to researching the theory of the regularization of modern poetry. In his essay "The Meter of Poetry," he demanded that modern poetry possess "the beauty of music (rhyme), the beauty of painting (diction), and the beauty of architecture (uniformity of stanzas and parallelism of lines)." He authored poetry collections such as "Red Candles" (1923) and "Still Water" (1928). His academic works include "Myth and Poetry," "Miscellaneous Discussions on Tang Poetry," "Classical Interpretations," and "Corrections and Supplements to the Chu Ci." His major works are collected in "The Complete Works of Wen Yiduo," comprising 4 volumes and 8 series, published by Kaiming Publishing House in August 1948. His comprehensive research and organization of the four great ancient classics—The Book of Changes, the Book of Songs, the Zhuangzi, and the Chu Ci—was praised by Guo Moruo as "unprecedented in the past and unmatched in the future."
