Core Issues in the Ancient-Age Debate (Schmitt's Theory and Strauss's Proposition)

Author: (German) Mayer, translated by Lin Guoji and others
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2004-10-01
Features: This book is a combined volume of two works by Professor Mayer——《Schmitt's Doctrine》, published in 1998, is the longest of Mayer's published works to date;——《Strauss's Thesis》, newly published this year, was originally titled Das theologisch-politische Problem and was changed to its current title upon the author's agreement. The second book is too short to be published separately in Chinese, and with the author's consent, the two books are combined. Mayer's Chinese translation of The Secret Dialogue is also a combined volume of multiple essays—the author prefers short essays, all centered around Schmitt and Strauss. This book can be considered a continuation of The Secret Dialogue, although it is a combined volume, the main focus remains the Schmitt-Strauss issue—essentially the "theological-political problem." Professor Mayer proposed naming this Chinese translation of the combined volume "The Theological-Political Problem," but in the context of Chinese linguistics, it would be more appropriate to call it "Core Issues in the Ancient-Modern Controversy"—tentatively considered a translation of Das theologisch-politische Problem. Strauss's lecture manuscript The Relationship Between Philosophy and Theology was included as an appendix in this book at my suggestion, and this is noted here.
