Features: Gu Zhu Shi Yi and Gu Zhu Yu Lun are two works by Sun Yirang, a renowned Confucian scholar and paleographer of the late Qing Dynasty (1848–1908) (styled Zhongrong, styled Zhuoxuan, native of Rui'an, Zhejiang), on the interpretation of inscriptions on Shang and Zhou bronze vessels. Gu Zhu Shi Yi was completed in the 11th year of the Tongzhi reign (1872), revised and proofread by Sun in the 14th year of the Guangxu reign (1888), and published in Wenzhou through engraving in the 16th year of the Guangxu reign (1890). The book consists of three volumes: the first volume selects and interprets fourteen inscriptions from bronze vessels engraved in Shi Dai Zhong Ding Yi Qi Kou Zhan Fa Tie by Xue Shanggong of the Song Dynasty; the second and third volumes, respectively, select and interpret thirty inscriptions from Ji Gu Zhai Zhong Ding Yi Qi Kou Zhan by Ruan Yuan of the Qing Dynasty and twenty-two inscriptions from Yun Qing Guo Wen by Wu Rongguang, all engraved in the Qing Dynasty. Gu Zhu Yu Lun was completed in the 29th year of the Guangxu reign (1903), but was not published during Sun’s lifetime. In 1926, Rong Geng used a manuscript obtained by Wang Guowei to publish it at the Institute of Chinese Studies of Peking University, adding over 500 corrections himself. Later, Dai Jiaxiang obtained three more manuscripts of Sun’s draft, adding over 1,000 more corrections. The book was finally published in 1929. Originally divided into two volumes, it interprets 105 important inscriptions from bronze vessels engraved in Huo Gu Lu Jin Wen by Wu Shifen of the Qing Dynasty. When Rong Geng proofread and published it, he divided it into three volumes to correspond with the volume numbering of Huo Gu Lu Jin Wen.
