Features: On the occasion of Professor Hong Wenda's 55th anniversary of teaching and 80th birthday celebration, we have edited and published this collection titled "Economic Globalization and China" as a token of respect. Professor Hong has been a dedicated educator for 55 years, with a vast number of students under his tutelage. As his 80th birthday coincides with this milestone, his disciples from all over the world have contributed essays to honor him, compiling this book as a gesture of gratitude. Truly, it is a gathering of the finest minds, with all stars converging around him. All the articles included in this collection are works of Professor Hong's disciples. They encompass theoretical explorations and real-world concerns; the texts are in both Chinese and English, but all are newly written and previously unpublished. This collection not only assembles the profound reflections of Professor Hong's distinguished students but also focuses on the key concerns of the contemporary Chinese academic community. Thus, it serves as an academic review of Professor Hong's contributions to the study of world economy at Fudan University, undoubtedly the best testament to his 55 years of teaching and nurturing talent. Since we began soliciting contributions for Professor Hong's 80th birthday from his disciples at Fudan, we have received enthusiastic submissions from students across the country and abroad. To date, we have received dozens of papers. However, due to the limitations of book printing, we have selected only 36 articles for this volume. As a result, many outstanding works with both academic rigor and practical significance remain unselected. Here, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the contributors, as well as our sincere apologies to those whose excellent essays were not included. We also kindly request understanding and forgiveness in this regard. The publication of this collection is made possible by the strong support of Fudan University Press. Special thanks are due to Mr. Xu Huiping for his diligent editorial work. The publication of this book was generously supported by my brother Chen Yue, to whom I am also deeply grateful.
Amid the tide of global economic integration, China has joined the World Trade Organization and is undergoing profound economic and social transformations through deepening its domestic market and maintaining sustained high-speed economic growth. Since the 1980s, institutional changes within Chinese society have posed many significant theoretical and practical questions for scholars like us, demanding in-depth research and reflection. It goes without saying that at this major historical turning point for the Chinese nation, as his devoted disciple, I believe that the best way to repay my teacher's kindness is to engage in dedicated theoretical exploration and academic thinking for the future reform and opening-up and social progress of China, with unwavering commitment and tireless effort.
In light of this, I hope this collection is not merely a theoretical report from his disciples to the master, nor just a demonstration of the achievements of his students in reaching theoretical heights, but rather a new starting point for the economists of Fudan University as they strive for even greater academic goals.
