What are the reasons for blood in semen after intercourse?

Patient's question:

About ten days of recent treatment: No treatment

Doctor's answer:

Hello, blood in semen indicates hematospermia. It is generally more common in individuals with frequent sexual activity. Most of the semen comes from the seminal vesicles, with a smaller portion originating from the vas deferens. The cause of blood in semen may be due to hyperplasia of the mucous membrane of the seminal vesicles. Other possible causes include inflammation of the seminal vesicles, prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, or urethral trauma. Less common causes include urinary tract tuberculosis, prostate tumors, seminal vesicle tumors, or congenital anomalies of the ureteral opening.
