What causes bedwetting in adults?

Patient's question:

I'm already over twenty this year, but I still often wet the bed in winter. I haven't had any urinary tract diseases. It was just that I had bedwetting as a child. It improved when I was in my teens, but now it's started again. What should I do? It's usually just a little bit, and I wake up immediately after urinating. It's more likely to happen when I'm lying flat. What's going on?

Doctor's answer:

Enuresis can lead to abnormalities in the patient's mental, psychological, and behavioral aspects, and these abnormalities can then become the cause of persistent and refractory enuresis in patients, especially older children and adults. Urological conditions such as phimosis, excessive prepuce, hypospadias, and urethral stricture; gastrointestinal diseases like long-term constipation or diarrhea, anal fissures, and irritable bowel syndrome; pituitary or renal diabetes insipidus; diabetes; allergic reactions to food and other substances; and intestinal parasitic diseases such as pinworms can all be causes of enuresis. These factors account for approximately 10% of enuretic cases.
