Abstract: Huazhong University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with several other institutions, jointly the Ministry of Education's research project on "Reform of Teaching Content and Curriculum System for Undergraduate Mechanics Courses in Engineering for the 21st Century." This book is written based on the idea of a hierarchical and modular curriculum design proposed by the project. It features concise content, emphasis on core principles, focus on fundamental methods and modern analytical calculations, and close alignment with engineering practice. The book covers topics such as the strength conditions of tensile (compressive) rods, torsion of rods, plane bending of beams, stress state and strength theory, strength of rods under combined deformation, energy method, stability of columns, basic analytical methods of elasticity, and computer methods for mechanics analysis of rods and rod systems. The book is accompanied by an appropriate number of exercises and reference answers, as well as a TeaTime section for explaining certain difficult problems. This book can serve as a textbook for students of various engineering disciplines studying the course of Mechanics of Materials, and can also be used as a reference for self-learners or engineering technicians.
