Features: In October 1998, Tsinghua University officially established the NGO Research Center and began basic research on Chinese NGOs. We have been continuously exploring and discovering the unique characteristics and patterns of Chinese NGO development. Despite challenges such as a lack of basic data, theoretical guidance, and legal regulations, with the support of an interdisciplinary, open, and empirical academic background, as well as an ever-strengthening team of academic, through various practical forms of communication and interaction such as academic salons, book clubs, classroom teaching, case studies, and seminars, we have been able to continuously gather information and insights, as well as spark innovative ideas and reflections. These interactions have gradually led to the formation of some unique perspectives and approaches that we are willing to call the essence of "Tsinghua NGOs." With the support of the Ford Foundation, we plan to publish approximately 10 specialized books on NGOs over the next 3-5 years, reflecting the academic research achievements of Tsinghua University's NGO Research Center, based on empirical research and related legislative and policy studies. — Wang Ming
This book is a study on the strategic positioning, strategic choices, and strategic environment construction of China's nonprofit sector. It analyzes the development background of the nonprofit sector from both internal conditions and external environments. On this basis, it proposes the view of viewing the development of the nonprofit sector through the lens of self-organizing order. The core argument of this book is that the strategic development of the nonprofit sector hinges on its ability to adapt to the transformation from a "holistic society" to a self-organizing society and autonomous order. This process is closely related to the overall societal transformation, with the legal and institutional environment and cultural development constituting important factors in the transition. The target readers of this book are faculty members in public management, as well as NGO organizational managers and researchers.
