History of Modern Chinese Comedic Literature

Features: The book is titled A History of Modern Chinese Comedic Literature, yet it does not provide a detailed introduction to the overall development of modern Chinese comedic literature. Instead, it selects some representative comedic writers and works for in-depth exploration, aiming for breakthroughs at the "point" rather than comprehensive coverage at the "surface." However, the intention is to connect these points to outline the general contours of the development of modern Chinese comedic literature. This approach was partly inspired by Professor Wen Rumin's A History of Modern Chinese Literary Criticism, and partly due to the author's academic background and the limitations of the available materials. Modern Chinese comedy shares similarities with modern Chinese literary criticism in that the threads of inheritance and variation may not always be clear, yet it is adorned with brilliant gems. The charm of modern Chinese comedy often lies in these shining points, which is why I adopted this "connect the dots" writing style. However, its shortcomings are also evident: the narrative of the history of modern comedic literature is incomplete, and the inevitable regret of missing out on certain works is unavoidable.
