Features: The upper part of this textbook divides the history of the modern era over eighty years into six chapters, corresponding to six periods. Chapter "The Opium War and the Beginning of Modern Chinese History" contains relatively little content but is highly important. Chapter 2, "The Taiping Rebellion and the Second Opium War," covers history that largely falls within the second period of modern Chinese historical development. Chapter 3, "The Emergence of Capitalism in China and the Deepening Foreign Invasion," narrates the content of the third period in modern Chinese history. Chapter 4, "The Hundred Days' Reform and the Boxer Movement," describes two distinctive patriotic movements for national salvation during the fourth period of modern Chinese historical development. Chapter 5, "The Xinhai Revolution," covers history that falls within the fifth period of modern Chinese historical development. Chapter 6, "The Dark Rule of the Beiyang Warlords and the New Trends of Modern Chinese History," narrates the content of the final period of eighty years in modern Chinese history. The lower part selects six important topics related to the overall history of modern China, aiming to supplement the shortcomings of the upper part and help students grasp the main academic viewpoints on some fundamental and significant issues in modern Chinese historiography. During the teaching process, teachers can flexibly arrange the content of these topics based on the library resources and specific conditions of each school. For example, some topics can be moved to the beginning of the entire course or integrated into specific issues within certain chapters of the upper part, and it is not necessary to follow a strict sequential order.
