Should newborns with jaundice drink glucose?

Patient's question:

My child was born on the fifth day, and the doctor performed a blood test and found that the jaundice level was 247. According to the hospital's standards, it exceeds 27, but we did not undergo blue light treatment. Now it is the ninth day, and the jaundice is still present. Could you please advise if the baby needs to drink glucose for jaundice?

Doctor's answer:

Infant jaundice is generally classified as either physiological or pathological. Based on your description, it seems the baby has pathological jaundice, and you should seek timely treatment for the child. Generally, this condition does not respond well to treatment. If the jaundice is not too severe, you can give the baby oral fluids for jaundice treatment. Make sure the baby gets adequate fluid intake, and it is okay to give them some sugar water, but avoid excessive consumption.
