Patient's question:
The baby was just born and developed severe neonatal toxic erythema, which is said to be caused by fetal toxins. Previously, we prepared Huanglian water, but the doctor didn't allow us to give it to the baby. Now the condition is getting worse. Is this situation serious?Doctor's answer:
Most cases develop within 4 days after birth, while a few are present at birth, and the latest onset is approximately 2 weeks. The lesions include erythema, papules, wheals, and pustules. Some may initially present with diffuse erythema, followed by 1-3 mm pale yellow or white papules and pustules with a solid base and a red halo. These are scattered and occasionally confluent, except for the palms and soles, they can occur on any part of the body but are more likely to appear on pressure areas such as the buttocks, back, and shoulders. The number of lesions varies, and they may resolve within a few hours before recurring shortly afterward. There are no other systemic symptoms, and the condition typically resolves on its own within 7-10 days. Generally, special treatment is not required, but it is important to maintain skin cleanliness and avoid scratching or irritation.
