It faithfully and objectively records the footsteps of our Party, nation, and people. The main source of this book is the magazine Xinhua Monthly, and it also references other published or released books, journals, and documents. It includes events, conferences, documents, speeches, policies, regulations, and other significant occurrences with a nationwide or international impact from October 1949, the founding of New China, to August 2004, as well as obituaries of prominent figures. The entries are arranged in chronological order by year, month, and day. Uncertain dates are marked with the reporting time from Xinhua News Agency or newspapers. Entries with only months but no exact dates are generally placed at the end of the month. For multiple entries on the same date, only the date is stated at the beginning of the entry, with subsequent entries marked with a "△" to indicate the same date. Most laws and regulations are annotated with their release and implementation dates for easy reference.
