Patient's question:
Please ask: I am a 29-year-old male. I have been experiencing very strong libido recently, thinking about it every day. Am I sick?Doctor's answer:
Hypersexuality in males, also known as male sexual hyperactivity, refers to a condition where sexual desire and urges are excessively intense and overwhelming. Individuals often exhibit a heightened susceptibility to strong sexual arousal, with episodes of sexual excitement occurring multiple times within a single day. Trivial actions or behaviors can easily trigger sexual impulses, such as accidental touches, handshakes, or exposure to unpleasant odors. Some individuals with severe hypersexuality struggle to control their desires, which may lead to unconventional or even illegal sexual behaviors.Since sexual desire varies significantly among normal individuals and can fluctuate across different age groups or even environments, it is difficult to define hypersexuality with clear and specific criteria. Sexual activity exhibits considerable individual differences, even in healthy individuals, whose frequency of sexual desire and sexual activity are not fixed but often change with physical condition and mental state. It is not unusual for some individuals to demonstrate stronger sexual capabilities. For example, newlyweds or young couples may have heightened sexual demands, and an increased frequency of sexual activity might be mistakenly labeled as "hypersexuality." However, these are not true cases of hypersexuality and do not constitute a medical condition.
