A Concise Introduction to Modern Political Economy

Author: Cheng Enfu, Editor-in-Chief
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2002-08-01
Features: This book has the following characteristics in terms of content and methodology:
1. A new system. Integrating the spirit of Marx's Capital system and the six-volume Political Economy system (proposed to study capital, land ownership, and wage labor; the state, foreign trade, and the world market), this book pioneers the "grand process system" in academia. Besides the introduction and conclusion, Part I analyzes the direct production process, Part II analyzes the circulation process, Part III analyzes the total production process, Part IV analyzes the state economic process, and Part V analyzes the international economic process.
2. A new methodology. The book discards the method of dividing political economy into capitalism and socialism, or splitting interconnected economic systems, operations, and development into separate chapters, with further division into capitalist and socialist sections within each chapter. Instead, it innovatively adopts the "analysis of the general and specific categories" within each chapter.
3. New perspectives. The book actively incorporates the latest domestic and international research on capitalism and socialism in political economy, selectively adopting certain theories from contemporary Western economics while emphasizing the scientificity and stability of principles. It adheres to the spirit of "not being bound by books, superiors, or trends" and advocates "liberating thought without rigidity and maintaining rigorous scholarship without superficiality."
4. New data. Due to space constraints, the book focuses on the analysis of economic principles rather than extensive empirical descriptions (which are primarily included in the accompanying texts Modern Political Economy Case Studies and Modern Political Economy Teaching Reference Materials). The book meets the needs of reform and development in the 21st century and is suitable for economics and management majors in various universities, party schools, and for cadre education and vocational training programs.
