Brief Introduction: Tang Shi Gu Chu (The Trumpet of Tang Poetry) is a distinctive and highly influential anthology of Tang poetry. Its distinctiveness lies in selecting only Tang Dynasty seven-character regulated verse, with a focus on works from the middle and late Tang period. Its significant influence is evidenced by the numerous annotated and critically analyzed editions that have emerged since its publication, such as Hao Tianting's Annotations to Tang Shi Gu Chu (Yuan Dynasty), Liao Wenbing's Complete Annotations to Tang Shi Gu Chu (Ming Dynasty), Qian Chaodi, Wang Junchen, Wang Qingchen, and Lu Yidian's Annotations to Tang Shi Gu Chu (Qing Dynasty), Qian Qianzhi and He Yimen's Critical Annotations to Tang Shi Gu Chu, Zhu Sanxi's Dong Yan Tang Ding Tang Shi Gu Chu, and Wu Ruyun's Critical Edition of Tang Shi Gu Chu (Republic of China period). These works have been passed down through generations without interruption. Moreover, this approach of selecting poems by poetic form has had a profound impact on later generations. For instance, Fang Hui's Ying Kui Li Su (Yuan Dynasty) selected only Tang and Song Dynasty five-character and seven-character regulated verse, and Jin Shengtan's Guan Hua Tang Xuan Pi Tang Cai Zi Shu Qi Wen Lu (Qing Dynasty) shows clear traces of following the Tang Shi Gu Chu in its selection of poetic forms, author choices, emphasis on certain poems, and total number of selected works.
