What is a testicular cyst?

Patient's question:

Since last week, I suddenly noticed a circular lump outside my testicle. Worried, I went to a local hospital for a thorough examination. The detailed examination results showed that the doctor diagnosed it as a testicular cyst. After that, some medicine was prescribed for me to take home, but it hasn't improved much. The help I need: What is a testicular cyst?

Doctor's answer:

The condition of testicular swelling is most commonly seen in epididymitis, which is often caused by bacterial invasion of the testicles. The transmission is primarily based on retrograde transmission. It frequently occurs in patients with lower urinary tract infections, prostatitis, post-urethral surgery, and those with long-term indwelling catheters, leading to epididymo-orchitis. It can also spread hematogenously to the testicles, resulting in isolated orchitis. The causative pathogens are often Escherichia coli, Proteus, Staphylococcus, Enterococcus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, among others. Treatment should be based on bacterial culture and sensitivity tests to determine the appropriate medication, with antimicrobial drugs as the foundation, while also requiring bed rest.
