What should I do if my child has a high fever that won't go down?

Patient's question:

The baby is 13 months old. Recently, they have had sudden high fever with temperatures ranging between 39-40°C, recurring repeatedly. They also have tonsillitis, a bloated stomach, and one eye constantly tearing. Initially, they were fine, but after coming home, the high fever of 38-39°C kept recurring. I don't know what to do. The baby has been listless all day long. What should I do?

Doctor's answer:

To the parent, your child's high fever that doesn't subside first requires treatment for the underlying cause. If the high fever persists due to a bacterial infection, antibiotic treatment should be administered. If it is caused by a viral infection, antiviral treatment should be given. At the same time, because the baby's central nervous system is not yet fully developed, high fever can easily trigger febrile seizures. Therefore, it is recommended that you take your child to the hospital for symptomatic treatment.
