Publish Date: 1995-07-01
Features: This volume primarily includes biographies of figures from the Kangxi era, totaling 60 entries. The subjects are mostly key officials and regional governors from the later period of the Kangxi reign, renowned scholars and thinkers, literary and artistic figures, important leaders of ethnic minorities, as well as well-known Jesuit missionaries who came to China. The main historical achievements of Kangxi's life were his dedication to national unification. Through long-term struggles both internally and externally, he further consolidated and developed China's multinational unified state, which had been established on the basis of long-term historical development. The unification of Taiwan and the three personal campaigns against Galdan were significant historical events in completing national unification. The Battle of Yaksa to reclaim the motherland and the signing of the Treaty of Nerchinsk between China and Russia were actions taken to resist foreign encroachment. Some of the key officials and generals included in this volume were major participants in these events. Some achieved glory on the frontier, some died in battle, and some ultimately contributed to national unification. Although their deeds varied, they all played a role in the unification of the nation. The authors of each entry provide detailed accounts of their subjects, hoping to vividly depict the heroic scenes of the struggles of that time.
