Features: Poetry and lyrics are one of the most profound and charming forms of Chinese classical literature. Due to their full embodiment of the characteristics of the Chinese language, they possess both literary and musical qualities as two artistic elements. In their concise form, they contain rich and profound meanings, which has always made them favored by both authors and readers. Their extensive social reference is unmatched by other forms. Zhonghua Book Company has published many collected works of ancient literary works in the past. Selecting the best works of famous poets and lyricists from all dynasties and compiling the latest research findings, we have always aspired to provide society with a systematic collection of poetry and lyrics that combines academic taste and readability, appealing to both the refined and the popular. The poems and lyrics selected in this book are based on the edition of Wang Peizheng's annotated Complete Works of Gong Zizhen, published by the Editing Department of Zhonghua Book Company in 1959 (reprinted twice in 1975 by Hai Nan People's Publishing House and in 1999 by Zhonghua Ancient Books Publishing House using the old paper format of the 1959 edition). In some cases, revisions were made based on other editions, with explanations provided. The Complete Works originally contained annotations on differences in old editions, with the better ones selected and included in the notes. The works are arranged in chronological order of their composition. As for the annotation style, each piece is preceded by an "Introduction," which explains the time of writing, background, and a brief analysis of its thoughts and art.
