How to Treat Prostatitis

Patient's question:

My husband started feeling pain during urination and occasional lower abdominal pain a few weeks ago. Gradually, his frequency of urination increased. He also felt weak during sex and had discomfort during ejaculation. After researching his symptoms, it's possible he might have seminal vesiculitis. He's very troubled and feels too embarrassed to go to the health center.

Doctor's answer:

Clinically, the following methods are commonly used to treat seminal vesiculitis:
Symptomatic Treatment: This primarily refers to treating the symptom of blood in the semen observed in patients with seminal vesiculitis.
Anti-inflammatory Treatment: Under the guidance of a doctor, patients with seminal vesiculitis can undergo anti-inflammatory treatment. After the symptoms completely disappear, medication should be continued for 1 to 4 weeks to consolidate the therapeutic effect.
Local Treatment:
1. A 1‰ berberine solution (20 mL) can be used for enemas after the patient has a bowel movement.
2. A 1% berberine solution can be used to moisten gauze, which is then placed over the perineum of the patient with seminal vesiculitis. The anode of a direct current therapeutic device should be connected to the gauze, while the cathode is connected to the patient's pubic bone for electrotherapy. Each session should last about 20 minutes, with daily treatment until recovery.
3. The patient with seminal vesiculitis can sit in warm water (42°C) or apply heat to the perineum. The three methods above can improve blood circulation in the perineum of patients with seminal vesiculitis, which helps reduce inflammation.
