The Pumi ethnic group is a minority distributed in the northwest of Yunnan Province. "Pumi" is the self-name of the ethnic group, meaning "white people." Due to linguistic differences, the self-name may vary slightly in different regions, but the meaning remains consistent. According to the 2000 population statistics of Yunnan's Pumi ethnic group, there were approximately 33,000 people. Most of them live in Ninglang Yi Autonomous County and Lanping Bai and Pumi Autonomous County. The rest are distributed in Lijiang, Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yongsheng, Weixi, Zhongdian, Yun County, Fengqing, and other counties. The distribution characteristics are large-scale dispersion and small-scale clustering, living intermingled with Tibetan, Kangle, Naxi, Bai, and Chong ethnic groups in the same region.
The Shui ethnic group is one of the minority groups in the southwestern region of China. The total population of the Shui ethnic group in China is 346,000, mainly distributed south of the Miao Ridge Mountains in the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. The southwestern part of Guizhou Province is the main settlement area of the Shui ethnic group. Historically, the Shui ethnic group in Yunnan migrated from Guizhou, primarily concentrated in the Gugan Shui Ethnic Township, which borders Xingyi City in Guizhou Province and Fuyuan County in Yunnan Province. According to the 2000 population statistics of Yunnan's Shui ethnic group, there were 13,000 people.
The Bouyei ethnic group is one of the minority groups in the southwestern region of China. The total population of the Bouyei ethnic group in China is 2.54 million, mainly distributed in Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi, and Yunnan. The Bouyei ethnic group in Yunnan is mainly concentrated in Luoping County, which borders Guizhou and Guangxi. Among them, the Bahe Bouyei are the most concentrated, accounting for 75% of the county's Bouyei population. There is also a small number of Bouyei people in Maguan County of Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. According to the 2000 population statistics of Yunnan's Bouyei ethnic group, there were 55,000 people.
