How to treat male dysfunction

Patient's question:

Urethral divarication and premature ejaculation, infertility. I have visited Hubei Provincial Maternal and Child Health Hospital twice to take medication, but the divarication in my urine is still present. A few days ago, I went to Hubei Provincial Hospital for the Armed Forces and they said it was a scam. I want to know what medicine I should take.

Doctor's answer:

1. Drink more water. Drink 2~2.5 liters of water daily. This will increase urination, and the concentrated urine will stimulate the prostate. Long-term adverse stimulation is harmful to the prostate. Drinking more water can not only dilute blood but also effectively reduce the concentration of urine.
2. Don’t hold urine. Once the bladder is full and there is a strong urge to urinate, you should relieve yourself. Holding urine is harmful to the bladder and prostate. Before taking a long-distance bus, empty your bladder before boarding. If you feel the urge to urinate during the trip, inform the driver and urinate immediately. Never hold urine.
3. Moderate sexual activity. To prevent prostate enlargement, attention should be paid from a young age. Key is to have a moderate amount of sexual activity—neither excessive nor abstinence. Frequent sexual activity can keep the prostate in a state of congestion, leading to enlargement. Therefore, it is especially important to moderate sexual activity during youth to avoid repeated congestion of the prostate, allowing it ample time to recover and repair. Of course, excessive abstinence can cause discomfort, which is equally harmful to the prostate.
4. Relax more. Life stress may increase the likelihood of prostate enlargement. Clinical studies show that when life stress is reduced, prostate symptoms improve. Therefore, it is important to maintain a relaxed state as much as possible.
5. Take warm baths. Warm baths can relieve tension in the muscles and prostate, alleviating discomfort. Regular warm baths are undoubtedly very beneficial for prostate patients. If you take 1–2 warm baths in the private area daily, you can also achieve good results.
6. Keep clean. The scrotum of males has high elasticity and secretes a lot of sweat. Combined with poor ventilation in the private area, conditions like prolonged foreskin or phimosis can easily trap dirt and bacteria. If not addressed promptly, severe infections may occur, leading to prostatitis, decreased sexual function, and even impaired semen quality, causing male infertility. Therefore, maintaining cleanliness in the private area is a crucial step in preventing prostatitis. Additionally, it is necessary to rinse the external genitalia before each sexual encounter. If there is prolonged foreskin or phimosis, surgical treatment should be considered early.
7. Avoid cold exposure. Don’t sit for long periods on a cold chair, as cold can stimulate the sympathetic nerves, leading to urinary retention, increased urethral pressure, and backflow.
8. Avoid friction. Friction in the perineal area can worsen prostate symptoms, causing significant discomfort. To prevent harmful friction, ride a bicycle less often, and avoid riding bicycles or motorcycles for long periods or long distances.
9. Overcome bad habits. Try to quit smoking and avoid alcohol (if you must drink, limit yourself to a small amount of beer, but avoid high-proof liquor). Eat less spicy and greasy foods like chili peppers and ginger to prevent repeated congestion of the prostate and bladder neck, which can worsen local. Since constipation may exacerbate the symptoms of the prostate, it is advisable to eat more vegetables, fruits, and coarse grains to keep bowel movements regular and reduce constipation. If necessary, use laxatives to help with bowel movements. Consume more foods beneficial to the prostate, such as black fungus, mushrooms, pork, beef, crucian carp, grass carp, beans, and grains.
10. Exercise more to enhance the body’s disease resistance. This is especially important for those who sit for long periods (e.g., taxi drivers, people who work long hours at a computer).
