Publish Date: 2005-04-01
Features: This book selects a collection of distinctive elective courses, thematic courses, and influential lectures, with classroom recordings as the basis. During the compilation process, it adheres to the spirit of (authentic recording), avoiding formal language and preserving spontaneous improvisations to maintain the original flavor of the live atmosphere. It aims to promote interaction between the campus and society, bringing the classroom beyond the university walls, allowing ordinary readers to perceive and further engage with the dynamic developments and cutting-edge issues in contemporary campus knowledge, thought, and academic progress. This classroom lecture recording can be broadly categorized into four types:
One category discusses how modern Western theories and new methods can be applied to the study of Chinese thought, including the Annales School, Foucault, and postmodern historiography.
Another category explores what can serve as materials for intellectual history, such as archaeological discoveries, artifacts, images, and even maps, primarily to address the narrow and limited perspectives often found in traditional intellectual history research.
A third category attempts to bridge intellectual history with other historical research fields—such as the history of civilizations, knowledge, ideas, law, and society—to foster communication and interaction.
A fourth category presents unconventional ideas in intellectual history research, such as the author's pioneering concept of "addition" and "subtraction" in the study of intellectual history.
Additionally, at the beginning and end of the book, it discusses recent changes in Chinese humanities and literature studies and the academic norms of humanities research, striving to examine the context, challenges, and methods of Chinese intellectual history research within a broader framework.
