Features: The History of Architecture was originally titled Collected Papers on the History of Architecture. It is a specialized academic series dedicated to publishing research papers on architectural history in China, founded by Tsinghua University in 1964. This is the 22nd issue. This issue includes 20 research papers and 2 prefaces, covering fields such as ancient Chinese architecture, documentary research, classical gardens and scenic areas, engineering technology, urban studies, vernacular architecture, cultural heritage preservation, and the history of architectural historiography. Professor Chen Mingda made significant contributions to the study of The Construction Methods of the Tang Dynasty, and his posthumous works have been published multiple times in Collected Papers on the History of Architecture. This issue continues to feature his research notes on The Construction Methods of the Tang Dynasty written during his lifetime. Cao Xun's paper Li Guangting's Ten Matters in Building Houses introduces the content related to ancient construction techniques found in a valuable Qing Dynasty document. Zhou Weiyuan's paper systematically discusses the development process, cultural connotations, and architectural characteristics of famous mountain scenic areas. Wang Guixiang's paper presents an innovative restoration study on the original state of the famous Tang Dynasty Mingtang building. Papers such as An Initial Exploration of the "50 Steps" in the Urban Blocks of Tang Chang'an City and Transportation Granaries and Canal Cities Along the Ming-Qing Grand Canal propose new insights into ancient urban studies from different perspectives. The analysis of the main hall of the initial ancestor temple and the traditional roof construction methods of Minnan vernacular residential buildings in this issue reflects the attention paid to ancient architectural techniques of different periods. Articles on the Shoukang Palace of the Forbidden City, the Mount Tai architectural complex, and the Weiyuan County fortress village group all present case studies based on specific architectural examples. The paper New Trends in Cultural Heritage Preservation—Combining Historical Environment Conservation with Urban Development provides an in-depth discussion on the fundamental concepts of cultural heritage preservation, relevant experiences, and the relationship between heritage preservation and urban development. Additionally, this issue includes papers that study ancient architectural aesthetics, the process of compiling the history of ancient Chinese architecture, methodologies for researching modern architectural journals, and the historical stages of the development of the modern city of Changchun. This book reflects the latest achievements in architectural history research in recent years, serving as an important academic document with significant representative value. It provides a valuable reference for further research on architectural history, cultural heritage preservation and reuse, and also offers guidance for urban planners and architects to learn from historical experiences and engage in design work. This book can serve as both research material for professionals in architectural history and a historical theory textbook for architectural majors in higher education, as well as a practical guide for readers to understand architectural evolution and urban transformation.
