In the mountain, there was a Taoist temple called Wuzhuang Temple, which housed a rare treasure—the Ginseng Tree. That day, the immortal Zhenyuan of the temple went out, leaving only two young immortals to guard. Upon learning of the Tang Priest and his disciples' arrival, the two young disciples took some ginseng fruits and presented them to the Tang Priest. Seeing the ginseng fruits resemble infants, the Tang Priest refused to eat them. The two young disciples then took the fruits back to enjoy themselves. This incident was discovered by Zhu Bajie, who sought help from Sun Wukong. Sun Wukong rushed to the back garden of the Taoist temple and ate some ginseng fruits with his disciples. Upon learning of this, the two young disciples cursed them, which provoked Sun Wukong to knock down the Ginseng Tree and flee. When Zhenyuan returned to Wuzhuang Temple, he heard about the incident and flew into a rage, chasing after the Tang Priest and his disciples on a cloud. He captured the four of them and demanded severe punishment. Sun Wukong pleaded with Guanyin Bodhisattva to rescue the Ginseng Tree, which she did. Seeing the precious tree revived, Zhenyuan was overjoyed and made Sun Wukong his sworn brother.
