Figures from surrounding areas and foreign countries with connections to Xinjiang history are also included where appropriate. Terms related to general history are generally excluded as they can be found in other reference works.
2. The entries in this dictionary are19499. Figures who had some influence on Xinjiang history but died after the liberation are included where appropriate.
3. The entries are arranged by the stroke count of the characters (with the words "" omitted from book titles). If two entries have the same stroke count, they are ordered by the stroke shape of the first stroke. If both stroke count and stroke shape are the same, the sorting principle of Ci Hai is applied. Entries with the same number of characters are arranged by the stroke count of the second character, followed by the stroke shape of the first stroke.
4. For entries with multiple names or translators, the most common one is listed as the main entry, while others are listed as see references. For entries with multiple meanings, definitions are divided into ①, ②, ③, etc.
5. Historical dates using era names are written in Chinese characters, indicating the lunar calendar. Old calendar dates are annotated with the corresponding Gregorian year. Months during the Republic of China period and after liberation are written in Arabic numerals, indicating the Gregorian calendar.
6. Names of ethnic groups and foreign countries generally follow commonly accepted translations.
7. Ancient place names are annotated with modern names. Place names within Xinjiang are generally not marked with "Xinjiang."
8. The dictionary generally uses officially published simplified characters. A few easily confusing variant characters or specialized terms (such as historical figures or place names) are retained where appropriate.
9. The dictionary includes a table of contents at the beginning and a phonetic index at the end.
