Publish Date: 2006-04-01
Features: As Asia's role in the world stage continues to rise, the United States will increasingly prioritize the Asia-Pacific region, and its regional security strategy will also evolve and adjust accordingly. Through an accurate interpretation of U.S. official documents and an in-depth analysis of relevant discussions and debates among U.S. policymakers, scholars, and the mainstream public, this book reveals the intrinsic logic behind the evolution and adjustments of the U.S. Asia-Pacific security strategy since the 1990s. This helps us understand the basic thinking of the U.S. government in adjusting its regional security strategy and establishes a new dynamic perspective for further in-depth research in this field. This book is a research outcome of a major project undertaken by the author at the Key Research Base of the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences. The book primarily reviews the U.S. Asia-Pacific security strategies of the George H.W. Bush administration, the Clinton administration, and the George W. Bush administration (term of office), providing in-depth and comprehensive analyses of major issues such as the preventive defense policy, adjustments to the U.S.-Japan alliance, the Clinton administration's security policy toward China, and the adjustments in the George W. Bush administration's Asia-Pacific security policy.
