Patient's question:
My nephew is two and a half years old and has not been circumcised. At the age of two, he already knew to call when he needed to use the bathroom. Now that he's grown, he often urinates on himself. Moreover, he frequently urinates less than 10 minutes apart, and each time he urinates for only 3-4 seconds. In the morning, he can urinate eight or nine times. The urine is a bit yellow and smells bad.Doctor's answer:
Frequent urination in children is very common. There are many reasons for it, but they can be divided into two major categories. These are pathological (caused by diseases) and physiological. Pathological frequent urination may be due to infections, stones, tumors, or the presence of foreign bodies, with urinary tract infections being the most common. Physiological frequent urination, in addition to lifestyle factors such as excessive fluid intake, cold weather, or ill-fitting pants, is most commonly attributed to psychogenic frequent urination. Once you notice that your child is frequently urinating, it's important to identify the cause. Avoid anxiously asking your child about every little thing, nor should you alarm others by asking them about unrelated ailments, to prevent further exacerbating the child's urination issues.
