Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-02-01
Features: The industry associations in China have developed from the original planned economy system and have been reshaped in the reconfiguration of the relationship between the state and society. The realization of their functions is closely related to the positioning of this relationship. This book combines the role positioning of industry associations in the social structure with their functional analysis, arguing that: industry associations, like enterprises, are essentially products of reducing transaction costs. The current industry associations in China, arising from different models of the state-society relationship, manifest three forms: "top-down," "market-endogenous," and "intermediate model." Correspondingly, they reflect the function of reducing different aspects of transaction costs, thus forming different functional positions of industry associations. The implementation of industry management models must be placed within the changing trends of the state-society relationship. Based on the innovative experiences of local industry association management systems and the judgment of future trends in the reconfiguration of the state-society relationship in China, this book proposes the development direction of industry associations and strategic choices for the transformation of their management systems. The seven cases in the second part of the book provide detailed first-hand materials from different perspectives, showcasing the role positioning, functional mechanisms, and innovative models of industry association management systems.
