Features: Logic is an important discipline in modern society and an indispensable foundational subject. It is an essential tool for mastering knowledge in other disciplines or achieving success in one's career. For this reason, logic is classified as a primary discipline under "General Knowledge" in the subject classification compiled by UNESCO. In the organization's "International Standardization of Naming in the Field of Science and Technology," logic is ranked first among all disciplines. The Encyclop?dia Britannica also lists it as one of the five major disciplines. In universities in Europe and America, logic courses are regarded as one of the compulsory subjects. China is also increasingly emphasizing the need to strengthen the research and popularization of logic. To lay a solid foundation for logic studies and facilitate readers' comprehensive understanding and learning of logic, our publishing house has organized experts and scholars to compile this Comprehensive Dictionary of Logic.
The dictionary was compiled by nearly 100 logic experts and scholars from cities and provinces such as Shanghai and Beijing, with authoritative figures in the logic field like Zhou Liqian serving as consultants. Renowned experts Peng Yilian and Ma Qinrong served as the chief editors. It contains over 6,000 entries and approximately 2.5 million words, making it the largest, most comprehensive, and richest dictionary of logic currently available in China. The entries cover a wide range of terms, theories, schools of thought, and works related to traditional logic, modern logic, dialectical logic, linguistic logic, scientific logic, legal logic, non-formal logic, critical thinking, as well as the history of logic in China, the West, and India, and the Indian logic of Nyaya.
The dictionary's framework is both comprehensive and innovative. Due to its classified arrangement and scientifically designed sections, it is convenient for readers to use in multiple ways. The content fully incorporates the latest achievements in logic research, including a series of new knowledge, disciplines, and branches at the forefront of logic studies, as well as the integration of logic with other disciplines and its practical applications. The dictionary also includes appendices with strong academic and practical value, such as a chronology of major events in logic, an important bibliography of logic after the founding of the People's Republic of China, and an index of foreign-language terms related to logic.
