Features: The term "Shanghai Bath Language" refers to the urban vernacular language that emerged in Shanghai during the 1920s to 1940s. It originated from the mouths of ordinary citizens and was used in literary works, serving as an important component of Haipai culture and holding significant research value. Later, the stylish scholars of Shanghai transformed it into an artistic form called "Vernacular Language Illustrated," which combines vivid illustrations with humorous content, making it an excellent piece of art appreciation. This book is a compilation of over ten types of old Shanghai vernacular language works, collected from a vast number of periodicals. Here, we have selected those published in newspapers and magazines, which have never been published as standalone books and are little-known, yet are both textually and graphically outstanding. Examples include Yangjingbang Illustrated, Baxiang Dijie Terminology Illustrated, Dance Hall Vernacular Language Illustrated, and Shanghai New Vernacular Language Illustrated.
