How to Use Medication for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia with Calcification

Patient's question:

Dad is 68 years old. Half a month ago, a thorough examination revealed benign prostatic hyperplasia with fibrosis. I've never encountered this before, so I'm not very familiar with it either. Could you please ask how to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia with calcification?

Doctor's answer:

Treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia:
1. Mild enlargement does not require treatment.
2. Estrogen therapy: For severe acute urinary retention or difficulty urinating, a slightly higher dosage can be started.
3. During acute urinary retention, acupuncture can be applied to points such as Guanyuan, Qihai, Sanyinjiao, and Yanglingquan. Catheterization should be performed to eliminate urinary retention, and the catheter should be retained to gradually empty the bladder.
4. Surgical treatment: For significant prostate enlargement, multiple episodes of acute urinary retention, large residual urine volume (60–100 mL or more), urinary tract infection, impaired renal function, or cases that do not respond to the above treatments, prostatectomy is recommended.
