Study on Ancient Navigation in Kunlun and South China Sea: Examination of the Ancient Kingdom of Samarkand

Author: (French) Fei Lang, translated by Feng Chengjun
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2002-12-21
Features: We have taken into consideration the need to preserve the original style of the translation and the coherence of the text while adapting to the reading habits of contemporary readers, in compliance with current translation naming conventions. For this new edition, the editorial team has made necessary revisions to the original book:
1. Revised layout. The original book was mostly printed in traditional characters in vertical columns, with dense text and small font sizes, making it difficult to read. The current edition has been converted to simplified characters in horizontal columns, with modern punctuation and appropriately enlarged font sizes.
2. Some original books, such as Pelliot's Yi Guang Yindu Liang Dao Kao, only had old-style sentence breaks without punctuation. For this edition, punctuation has been added sentence by sentence.
3. For foreign names and place names in the book that are followed by the original text, the translation has been referenced from the Handbook of English Translations of Names compiled by Xinhua News Agency and the Handbook of Foreign Place Name Translations compiled by the Chinese Place Name Committee. Changes or annotations have been made as appropriate based on specific circumstances.
4. Some translations in the book have been slightly adjusted in accordance with a cautious principle, based on current conventions. For example, Romayanshu has been renamed Ramayana, "Dai" has been changed to "Dai ethnic group," and "Lancang River" has been corrected to "Lancang River," and so on.
5. Some old editions had appendices with error correction lists prepared by experts. For this edition, these have been checked and corrected in the main text to benefit readers.
6. Any printing errors that have been identified in the original text have been corrected.
