Is it normal for my testicles to be asymmetrical?

Patient's question:

I've never paid much attention to my testicles. A few days ago, when I was having sex with my girlfriend, she suddenly noticed that my testicles are asymmetrical and thought I might have some kind of disease, so she was very worried. Usually, they don't hurt or itch, and my sexual function is also normal. Is that okay?

Doctor's answer:

Asymmetry of the male testicles is actually a congenital issue related to growth and development. If you can have normal sexual life and conceive, it is generally considered normal. There is no need to undergo a thorough examination if you are not (at ease) about it. You can consult a urologist for a manual examination or an ultrasound to check the volume range, and to see if there is any fibrosis or developmental abnormalities internally. If the sexual function is not affected, it is usually not a major concern.
