Features: To help students grasp the question-creation patterns before the exam and overcome the challenges of the CET-4 in the shortest possible time, we have analyzed and summarized the new question types of the CET-4 pilot stage based on the "Reform Plan for the National College English Test (CET) (Trial)" and the new CET-4 test paper designed by the reform project group and examination committee. By referring to past CET-4 actual test papers and various relevant books and materials, we have provided a detailed analysis and summary of the new question types in the section of this book.
In terms of the language skills tested, the pilot-stage CET-4 consists of the following four sections:
① Listening Comprehension (35%):
② Reading Comprehension (35%):
③ Cloze or Error Correction (10%):
④ Writing and Translation (20%).
It is evident that the CET-4 has increased the volume and proportion of the Listening Comprehension section, introduced rapid reading comprehension tests, and increased the proportion of non-selective questions. The Listening Comprehension section now accounts for 35%, with 15% dedicated to listening dialogues and 20% to listening passages. The listening dialogue section includes the comprehension of short and long dialogues, while the listening passage section includes dictation and choice-based comprehension.
The Reading Comprehension section has been adjusted to 35%, with 25% for careful reading and 10% for fast reading. The careful reading section tests not only passage comprehension but also the understanding of vocabulary in the context of the passage. The fast reading section tests various rapid reading skills.
The integrated test accounts for 15%, consisting of two parts. The section is Cloze or Error Correction, which makes up 10%, while the second part is short-answer questions or translation, accounting for 5%.
The writing ability test accounts for 15%, covering topics such as argumentative essays, expository essays, and practical writing.
In terms of layout, the book strictly follows the content of the new CET-4 format. The second part of the book includes 10 practice tests, arranged in the order of candidate responses, each consisting of six sections: Writing Test (30 minutes), Fast Reading Comprehension (15 minutes), Listening Comprehension (35 minutes), Careful Reading Comprehension (25 minutes), Cloze (15 minutes), and Translation (5 minutes). The total time for answering the practice tests is 125 minutes, exactly matching the time and arrangement of the CET-4 exam. Candidates can use these tests as pre-exam self-assessments and, through intensive training on the new CET-4 format, improve their comprehensive English language skills.
The third part provides detailed reference answers with concise and comprehensive explanations, aiming to help readers thoroughly understand the question-creation patterns and broaden their problem-solving perspectives for self-assessment and study. This section also includes the written materials for the listening recordings, which were recorded by specially invited foreign experts with clear pronunciation and moderate speed, making them an invaluable listening training resource.
This book is designed to help a wide range of candidates familiarize themselves with the new CET-4 format in a short time and successfully pass the College English Test Band 4.
