Features: Learning piano requires studying polyphonic music. Polyphonic music refers to the combination of two or more melodic voices with independent meanings in a single piece. The exercises we have played, such as those by Czerny and Bach, are mostly monophonic music with a main melody accompanied by harmony. Learning to play polyphonic piano pieces is very beneficial for training hand independence, multi-voice musical thinking, and singing-like performance. This textbook is compiled for beginners to learn polyphonic music. It includes charming and beautiful polyphonic piano pieces by the famous German composer Johann Sebastian Bach (J.S. Bach) and his sons—Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (W.F. Bach), Johann Christian Bach (J.C. F. Bach), and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (C.P.E. Bach). Through the performance of these pieces, it is hoped that students will come to love polyphonic music and Bach.
