Features: "" books are a large-scale series of publications launched by Social Sciences Academic Press in recent years. They consist of a series of authoritative research reports on economic and social development, analyzing and forecasting the current status and development trends of various fields in the economy and society each year. The authors of this series primarily include experts from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, supplemented by researchers from various government departments, universities, and research institutions. They are all top experts from first-class research institutions in China, and their views and insights reflect the highest level of understanding and recognition of China's reality and future, making the series unquestionably authoritative. This year's new addition to the "" series. This book will provide readers with a comprehensive, detailed, and macro-level understanding of China's macroeconomic performance in 2002 and the economic trends in 2003. It is also a policy research work that can serve as a theoretical basis and reference for decision-making departments at all levels of government in formulating policies. Target Audience: Economics researchers and teaching staff, leaders of Party, government, and enterprise units, theoretical publicity workers, and business operators at home and abroad, as well as middle and senior management personnel.
In August 2002, after approval from the Central Committee of the Commission on Political and Legal Affairs, the former Institute of Finance and Trade Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences was officially renamed the Institute of Finance and Trade Economics, still abbreviated as the Institute of Finance and Trade. The China Economic Performance and Policy Report No. 1 (2002–2003) (Blue Book of Finance and Economics) is a comprehensive research report launched after the renaming of the institute. As the Vice Dean of the Economics Discipline Group and an economic researcher myself, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all members of the Institute of Finance and Trade. Several research institutes within the Economics Discipline Group have already published their own annual reports with distinctive features. These reports have not only received widespread acclaim in society but have also effectively promoted their own research work. I believe that the publication of the China Economic Performance and Policy Report will also play a similar role. It marks a new stage in the research work of the Institute of Finance and Trade. Compared to other annual reports that analyze macroeconomic performance, this report by the Institute of Finance and Trade has the following distinctive features:
First, it leverages the disciplinary strengths of the Institute of Finance and Trade, conducting in-depth analyses of macroeconomic performance from three perspectives: finance, banking, and foreign trade and economic cooperation. This helps readers understand macroeconomic conditions by examining the interrelationships between the real economy and the monetary economy, as well as between foreign and domestic economies.
Second, guided by the spirit of the 16th National Congress report, it systematically elaborates on a series of major issues concerning China's economic development in the next 20 years, centered around the grand goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. It proposes strategic choices and policy recommendations, making the report both timely and forward-looking.
Third, as envisioned by the editors, the structure of the annual report will be divided into two parts each year. The first part provides a comprehensive analysis of the state of macroeconomic performance, while the second part focuses on an in-depth exploration of a selected theme. This framework structure is also a breakthrough compared to other annual macroeconomic reports.
In summary, I believe that the China Economic Performance and Policy Report is distinctive both in content and structure, and I am confident that it will help readers gain a deeper understanding of China's macroeconomic situation. On the other hand, as a newly launched report, it is bound to have many shortcomings. We sincerely hope to receive criticism and guidance from readers.
