Features: The "Doing Business 2005: Enabling and Restricting Business Activity" is the second in a series of annual reports that examine the scope and manner of various regulations affecting business operations. New quantitative indicators for the business regulatory environment and its enforcement in 145 countries, from Albania to Zimbabwe, can be compared. The "Doing Business 2004: Understanding Regulations" introduced indicators on five topics: starting a business, hiring and firing workers, enforcing contracts, closing a business, and getting credit. The "Doing Business 2005" updates these indicators and adds two new sets of indicators: registering property and protecting investors. These indicators are used to analyze economic and social outcomes such as productivity, investment, formality, corruption, unemployment, and poverty, to identify the results of reforms and the countries and reasons behind effective reforms.
