The Rules for Students is a popular textbook from the Qing Dynasty, compiled by Li Yuanyan. It is a textbook that uses rules and regulations to educate on ethics and morality, serving as a colloquial interpretation of the passage from the Analects where Confucius’s disciples are advised to "be filial at home, respectful abroad, careful and trustworthy, love all people and be close to the virtuous, and if there is any remaining energy, study literature." Written in three-character rhyming verses, it is catchy and easy to remember. In the Compendium for Young Children’s Memorization, Zhou Baozhang of the Qing Dynasty wrote: "Since Li’s Rules for Students has become widely used, this book (referring to the Three-Character Classic) has fallen into disuse." This shows the significant influence of The Rules for Students during the Qing Dynasty.

The characters selected are commonly used in ancient texts, with simple sentence structures and fluent, natural language, making it easy to read and memorize.
The Collection of Famous Scholars is a popular reading material that has circulated among the people since the Southern Song Dynasty. There is no certain author, but based on the content, it is highly likely that Confucian scholars after the Southern Song Dynasty compiled it from the sayings and maxims of famous figures throughout history, as well as long-standing folk proverbs and aphorisms. It could not have been the work of a single person but rather the collaborative effort of multiple people or generations. Most of its material comes from society and reflects the life experiences and psychological aspirations of the people at the time. It contains many concepts and norms related to self-cultivation, family management, and interpersonal relationships, which still hold relevance today.
