Features: In the fourth month of the Jia Shen year, after Dorgon assumed regency, he immediately led his army southward with ambitious ambitions to seize China; Wu Sangui surrendered to the Qing. On the 20th of the fourth month, Li Zicheng personally led 60,000 troops to the west bank of the Shighe River in the suburbs of Shanhai Pass. On the 21st, the Shunxi army and Wu Sangui's Guanning army had their first encounter, resulting in casualties on both sides. On the 22nd, the two armies clashed again, with fierce fighting, the Qing cavalry suddenly charged out, and the Shunxi army fought bravely but suffered heavy casualties. Li Zicheng led the defeated troops back to Beijing, ascended the throne in a hurry, and then fled in a hurry. On the way to Shaanxi, the Shunxi army suffered consecutive defeats, and the Qing army pressed towards Chang'an from both the east and the west. After the fall of Tong Pass, Li Zicheng had no choice but to abandon Chang'an and retreat via Jingzhou and Wuguan to Hubei and Hunan. The morale was low along the way, and Niuxing and his son fled in secret. Later, Liu Zongmin and Song Xiance were captured. Li Zicheng ultimately died alone on the foothills of Jiugong Mountain in Tongshan County. Nineteen years later, in the spring of the third year of Kangxi's reign, on Mao Lu Mountain at the border of Sichuan and Hubei, the white-haired Lady Gao, together with Shang Shenxian, reviewed the history of the Shunxi army's alliance with the Ming to resist the Qing and the resistance of the thirteen families of Kuidong; just in time, Hao Nianhuai visited here and reviewed the story of Hongniangzi becoming a nun on Wangwu Mountain. In mid-August, a fierce battle broke out between the defenders of Mao Lu Mountain and the Qing army, and Lady Gao, Li Laiheng, and others tragically burned themselves to death. The last characters to appear in the novel are Hongniangzi and Hao Nianhuai, who travel around the world and secretly spread the "White Lotus." A century and a half later, a large-scale White Lotus uprising broke out in Sichuan, Chuan, and Shaanxi. The entire fifth volume is permeated with a mood of great tragedy, and all the tragic characters, big and small, are shaped in this volume.
