Can you play basketball with varicocele on the left side?

Patient's question:

When lying down, there are no abnormalities in the blood vessels. When standing up, the blood vessels can be clearly felt but not seen, and there is little pain. Do I need surgery, or can I avoid surgery and take some traditional Chinese medicine to regulate it, and it will heal on its own after a few treatments?

Doctor's answer:

Varicocele, a relatively common genital disorder, is mostly mild to moderate in severity. If the condition is severe, it can affect our perinatal function. The spermatic cord is usually invisible under normal circumstances and can only be detected through palpation. If it cannot be felt while lying down but can be felt when standing, it is likely moderate in severity. Reducing abdominal pressure can alleviate varicocele, so activities that increase abdominal pressure, such as intense running, jumping, or yoga, should be avoided.
