Features: Obscured by the fame of a painting master, Mr. Fu Baoshi's achievements in seal carving remain largely unknown. In fact, from a young age, Mr. Baoshi's pursuit of magic began with seal carving. By the time he was eight or nine, he had already [grasped the knife and chisel to break inkstones and stones], and entered the world of seal carving upon obtaining a copy of the Kangxi Dictionary. Later, he studied Thirty-five Examples and Seal Carving Measurement, and imitated collections such as Xiao Shifang and Tang Zang's Seal Collection, gradually coming to understand [the true essence of seals, which can be fully appreciated]. With this breakthrough in understanding, his skills improved significantly. Between the ages of 14 and 19, his seal carving works had accumulated to five albums. After crossing to Japan, he [collected and compiled all the works he had published over the years, numbering over a thousand], and then selected and compiled them into the two volumes of Seal Carvings Created by Fu Baoshi, which included over one million works. At that time, Fu Baoshi had already become a renowned young seal carver in Nanchang.
The seals in this collection are generally arranged by creation date, but they are also divided into several categories such as bronze seals, silver seals, ivory, crystal jade, bamboo root, and stone seals. The seals carved for Japanese friends during his study abroad from 1932 to 1935 and those used by the master himself are listed separately, so the chronological order of the seal carvings is not entirely accurate. Kindly note this when reviewing the collection.
