Patient's question:
My boyfriend recently noticed that the head of his penis is red and swollen, and it's itchy and painful with many small red bumps. I searched online and found it's balanitis.Doctor's answer:
Phimosis should be treated by the urology department. You may have contracted Trichomonas vaginalis, Candida, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, or Neisseria gonorrhoeae through unprotected sex, all of which can cause balanitis. Non-communicable factors often include poor hygiene due to excessive foreskin, insufficient cleaning, and the accumulation of dirt between the foreskin and glans, which can irritate the foreskin and mucosa, leading to inflammation again. However, there is no need to worry. Simply rinse with clean water daily, and change your underwear frequently for the next two days. Remember to wash your underwear separately and expose it to sunlight if possible. Avoid sexual activity for the next few days. If the condition does not improve within two to three days, it is recommended to see a doctor.
