Features: This small dictionary is a condensed and adapted version of the Modern Chinese Dictionary, first published in 1980 with approximately 30,000 entries. It underwent a revision from 1982 to 1983, adding over 5,000 new multi-character entries, and was published in 1988. To meet the diverse needs of readers, we began another revision in 1996. This revision involved adding and removing some words, revising certain definitions, further aligning the treatment of character forms, pronunciations, traditional characters, and variant characters with the regulations issued by relevant national authorities. All multi-character entries were annotated with phonetic transcriptions, most entries were labeled with parts of speech, and additional explanatory notes were provided for the writing, pronunciation, and usage of certain words. A new section titled "Vocabulary" was also added. These changes were made to enhance the dictionary's normative and practical value. This book is a small-scale dictionary primarily focused on, mainly intended for readers with a junior high school education level, especially primary school teachers, for language learning and teaching purposes. Over the past twenty years, it has been widely cherished by readers, and many have enthusiastically offered revision suggestions. Here, we express our heartfelt gratitude. The first two editions of this book did not list the names of the compilers and revisors.
