Features: Still life painting has a long tradition in Western art, but its evaluation has not remained constant. In ancient Greece, still life painting was considered a way to demonstrate the artist's ability to replicate objects. In 5th-century BC Greece, there was a story about two dominant painters. One day, the painters Zeuxis and Parrhasius held a painting competition. Zeuxis painted a bunch of grapes so realistically that birds came to peck at them. When Zeuxis went to Parrhasius's place, Parrhasius asked Zeuxis to hang a curtain on his painting.
