Patient's question:
Recently, the symptoms of frequent urination, urinary urgency, and dysuria have recurred. I suspect it might be benign prostatic hyperplasia. What does prostatic enlargement with fibrosis mean?Doctor's answer:
Prostatic hyperplasia with fibrosis may be caused by two reasons, as confirmed by imaging diagnosis. Prostatic hyperplasia with fibrosis is the scar left behind after treatment for prostatic hyperplasia, or it may be a precursor to prostatic calculi. After developing the condition, patients may experience symptoms of incontinence, particularly nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting). In the early stages, prostatic hyperplasia stimulates and inhibits the posterior urethra and bladder neck, leading to symptoms such as frequent urination (prostatic disease) and urinary urgency. The mucosal surface may show dilated blood vessels that even rupture, resulting in broken skin and presenting as hematuria (blood in urine).
