Why is an epididymal cyst so painful?

Patient's question:

I carefully checked a while ago and found an epididymal cyst, but it has started to hurt recently. What could be the reason for this?

Doctor's answer:

Cysts are not painful. If pain reappears, it indicates epididymitis or an epididymal cyst. Since cysts are benign, they do not cause pain or only cause mild discomfort. The thickened content is usually sperm and fluid. Avoid sitting for long periods and minimize the intake of spicy and irritating foods. Stay away from smoking and alcohol to inhibit these triggering factors. In this case, it is recommended to undergo a follow-up MRI for a thorough examination. If the cyst is large and symptomatic, surgical treatment should be considered.
